Books I’ve Had Stories In (that you can buy right now!)

I’ve been lucky.

I started writing 11 years ago, at the time as something to do after my wife fell asleep (she was pregnant and went to bed early). My first story was accepted into the first place I sent it to which is actually a very unhealthy thing for an author to experience as I now know that this is actually really rare.

I started writing in Icelandic but the switched to English as I am bilingual and the English market is muuuuch bigger when it comes to the stories I tend to write.

Below are books currently in print that you can buy right now.

Garden of Fiends

Here’s the book’s description on Amazon:

The intoxication from a pint of vodka, the electric buzz from snorting cocaine, the warm embrace from shooting heroin–drinking and drugging provides the height of human experience. It’s the promise of heaven on earth, but the hell that follows is a constant hunger, a cold emptiness. The craving to get high is a yearning as intense of any blood-thirsty monster.

The best way to tell the truths of addiction is through a story, and dark truths such as these need a piece of horror to do them justice.

The stories inside feature the insidious nature of addiction told with compassion yet searing honesty. Drug overdoses are now the leading cause of accidental deaths, and some of the most incredible names in horror fiction have tackled this modern day epidemic.

Garden of Fiends is available on Kindle, paperback AND on Audible.

Apex Book of World SF 4

Now firmly established as the benchmark anthology series of international speculative fiction, volume 4 of The Apex Book of World SF sees debut editor Mahvesh Murad bring fresh new eyes to her selection of stories.

From Spanish steampunk and Italian horror to Nigerian science fiction and subverted Japanese folktales, from love in the time of drones to teenagers at the end of the world, the stories in this volume showcase the best of contemporary speculative fiction, wherever it’s written.

“Important to the future of not only international authors, but the entire SF community.”
—Strange Horizons

The Apex Book of World SF 4 is available on Kindle and in paperback.

Not Your Average Monster 2

Slithering, wriggling, lurking, and creeping. Leaving slick trails of pustulent slime behind them.

These aren’t your run-of-the-mill monsters populating the pages of this tome. No, these critters feed on the fear that bubbles up inside you when all appears lost and the scent of blood is on the wind. Now is the time to face these demons and read on.

My story here is really, really not for everyone. It involves child abduction and molestation.

Not to scare you away from it, however, if horror is your bag. Here’s a reviewer on Amazon:

While all of the stories were good, some of my favorites include:

With Covered Eyes by Johann Thorsson: Jon Stefansson is a detective in a town marked by its high child abduction and pedophilia cases. Something even more sinister lurks behind the evil activities. While the narrative could have been tighter, the story scared me enough that I was biting my nails while reading.

You can buy a copy on Kindle or in paperback, though I must warn you – this one is a bit hardcore.

Bonus: Professor Charlatan Bardot’s Travel Anthology to the Most Haunted Buildings in the Weird, Wild World (coming 2021)

This was an anthology invite for which I wrote a short story about a haunted tourist spot in my native Iceland. Its publication is slated for fall 2021 but may be delayed.
I look forward to seeing this one in print, as it is going to have quite a bit of illustration. I also happen to think that my story, short as it is (about 100 words) is good.

And then, of course, Whitesands, my debut novel, is out on September 24th. Mark your calendars. Sign up below to be the first to see the cover, which is only a few weeks away from reveal.
